Presentation: My Tummy Hurts: A Case Study of Adding A Mental & Behavioral Health Department into an Established Pediatric Office

Presentation Description:

This presentation analyzes what happened when one medical pediatric office invested in delivering integrated care to their patients, specifically focused on providing mental health services.

After becoming overwhelmed by mental health issues and concerns during the pandemic, Tanque Verde Pediatrics decided to add mental health services in-house for their patients when outside providers could not handle the increased demand. This presentation will highlight what happened so far, the benefits/struggles of integrated care, the financial implications for a practice to consider, how creativity helped to develop new ways of providing mental health education and care, barriers that were decreased for patients and those that still exist, and where the future of this department is going.
