Several members of the Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies (CGI) community served as featured presenters at the 2025 RISE Population Health Summit, held December 10–11 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The RISE Population Health Summit convenes leaders across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial markets to share real-world solutions for advancing population health, integrating behavioral health, amplifying patient voices, and applying innovation, from GLP-1 therapies to AI-driven decision support.
Dr. Ellen Fink-Samnick, DBH Program Advisor, faculty member, and alumna, served as Conference Chair, opening and closing the summit each day. She also spoke on the panel Population Health in Practice: Preparing for What’s Ahead, where panelists explored how organizations are preparing for downstream regulatory and programmatic shifts and shared strategies for implementing value-based, equity-driven, and interoperable care models aligned with evolving expectations.
Dr. Ronke Komolafe, DBH Advisor and faculty member, delivered the December 11 Keynote Address, The Future of Population Health Through Systems Thinking and Technological Innovation. Her keynote offered a visionary perspective on reimagining infrastructure, workflows, and cross-sector partnerships to meet modern population health needs.
Dr. Selena Schmidt, DBH alumna and faculty member, moderated the panel Voices of the Patient: What Population Health Means at the Individual Level, presented in partnership with the Camden Coalition. The discussion centered on patient experiences within population health initiatives, barriers to accessing care, social determinants of health, and navigating complex systems. Dr. Schmidt also served as a panelist on Public and Population Health: Connecting the Dots, addressing the relationship between public and population health, program evaluation strategies that advance equity, and lessons from recent natural disasters underscoring the importance of preparedness and coordinated response.
Dr. Kenneth Roberts, DBH Alumnus, spoke on the panel Integrating Mental and Behavioral Health into Population Health. Panelists examined current behavioral health trends, including rising substance use rates, the role of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) in expanding access and quality, and practical strategies for integrating behavioral health with primary care and population health initiatives.
Reflecting on the event, Dr. Fink-Samnick shared,
“Over 100 attendees were totally transformed!”
