DBH Student, Licet Valois, Publishes in Peer-Reviewed Journal
Doctor of Behavioral Health student Licet Valois, LMSW, MPS, CDP, recently published an article in Health & Social Work titled “Reflections of a Social Worker: Contributions to an Interdisciplinary Brain Healthcare Team.” The piece highlights the importance the role behavioral health professionals, especially social workers, play in preventive neurology and dementia care.
Licet says her inspiration came directly from the field.
“I was inspired by the need to raise awareness about brain health and dementia care based on my experiences in the field,” she shares. “My hope is to empower behavioral health professionals to embrace risk, be more creative, and explore career opportunities beyond traditional roles.”
As our population ages, neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s are becoming more common and more complex. Licet’s work shows that when behavioral health professionals are part of the care team, patients benefit from more holistic and proactive care that can delay or even reduce cognitive decline.
Seeing her work published was a powerful moment.
“It felt incredibly encouraging and validating,” Licet says. “It felt gratifying to create and convey a message that resonated with others after investing so much time in its production!”
Her advice to other students interested in writing and research? “Whatever your mind conceives, with effort and passion, you can achieve!”
