About Dr. Juan Sanchez
Dr. Juan Sanchez was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. He began his undergraduate studies at the University of New Mexico before joining the United States Marine Corps in 1994. Over the next 20 years, Dr. Sanchez served with distinction, deploying multiple times to combat zones during the Iraq War and earning numerous honors, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat “V” for Valor. He also participated in humanitarian relief efforts in Indonesia following the 2004 tsunami.
While serving stateside, Dr. Sanchez earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Psychology from Park University. Throughout his military career, he held leadership positions across ranks and had the honor of training and mentoring more than 40,000 Marines.
After retiring from active duty, he returned to New Mexico to continue his education. He re-enrolled at the University of New Mexico, earning a Master’s degree in Family Studies in 2018 with concentrations in Family Life Education, Human Development in Families, and Family Relations. He went on to complete a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University in 2019.
In 2021, Dr. Sanchez enrolled in the Doctor of Behavioral Health (DBH) program at Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies. Through his DBH education, he continued his mission of service by addressing critical gaps in healthcare access in his home community.
