About Dr. Selena Schmidt
Dr. Selena Schmidt is a board-certified Holistic Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a diverse and impactful career spanning clinical care, executive leadership, and health policy. She also holds a Master of Science in Law with a concentration in Health Care Law and Policy, Graduate Certificate in Lean Leadership, and Doctor of Behavioral Health degree.
In 2023, Dr. Schmidt was honored as a Notable Leader in Behavioral Health by Crain’s Business, recognizing her influential work across mental health and addiction services.
Dr. Schmidt currently serves as a C-suite executive within the nation’s largest Catholic health system, where she provides strategic leadership across 140 hospitals, 40 senior living centers, and more than 3,700 physician practices, urgent care clinics, and ambulatory centers in 22 states. She is committed to fostering systems that support evidence-based, compassionate, and integrated care across behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, and community health services.
In her home state of Michigan, Dr. Schmidt serves on several high-impact advisory boards and councils. These include Governor Whitmer’s Challenge Advisory Council, where she helps shape statewide mental health and addiction policy, and the Michigan Hospital Association, advocating for mental health parity and sustainable funding. She also collaborates with Medicaid providers and insurance companies to improve access to quality care for all Michiganders.
As the founder and owner of Trio Behavioral Health Consulting, LLC, Dr. Schmidt supports emerging and existing mental health organizations in designing and implementing integrative care models.
A passionate advocate for marginalized voices, Dr. Schmidt is also a dedicated traveler who finds joy in exploring new cultures and building lasting memories. She is the proud mother of three children—all pursuing careers in healthcare—and a beloved granddaughter who brings light to her life.
