About Dr. Dr. William Chum
Dr. William Chum is a licensed mental health counselor and the founder of Woodside Mental Health, a psychotherapy practice dedicated to serving Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) individuals. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with honors from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Baruch College – City University of New York.
He completed his clinical training at Gouverneur Health, part of New York City Health + Hospitals, where he worked closely with the Chinese immigrant population in lower Manhattan. He later served with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a subject matter expert in Primary Care–Behavioral Health integration.
Currently, Dr. Chum serves as President-Elect of the Hawaiʻi Counselors Association and is a member of the Mental Illness Protection and Advocacy Advisory Council for the Hawaiʻi Disability Rights Center.
A Honolulu native with roots in Hong Kong, Dr. Chum is deeply committed to advancing behavioral health integration—particularly as a way to provide whole-person, non-stigmatizing care to AANHPI communities. His passion continues through the AANHPI Resilience Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that evolved from his Doctor of Behavioral Health culminating project at Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies.
