Cummings Graduate Institute to Fundraise Student Scholarships on Arizona Gives Day

Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies (CGI) is excited to participate in Arizona Gives Day, April 7, 2020. During their past two years of participation in Arizona Gives Day, CGI was proud to raise enough funds to support four student scholarships. One hundred percent of all funds contributed to the 2020 Arizona Gives Day campaign will go directly to student scholarships.

When asked about why CGI participates in Arizona Gives Day, Melissa McGurgan, Director of Marketing replied, “Arizona Gives Day helps us work toward our goal of creating an institutional scholarship fund to reduce financial barriers for our students pursuing a Doctor of Behavioral Health degree at CGI. Donating to CGI is a direct investment in our extraordinary students, who give back to their communities, conduct innovative applied research in integrated behavioral healthcare, and are passionate about changing the way the world experiences healthcare. Their work makes a long-term difference in the lives of others. With great anticipation, we look forward to being able to reduce the financial burden for five of our students as they pursue a doctoral degree through our Arizona Gives Day fundraising initiative.”

“The Doctor in Behavioral Health (DBH) program has changed my understanding of the subject and career path. Before this academic journey, my knowledge of behavioral health was primarily theoretical, including essential ideas and methods. However, the DBH curriculum combined intense academic research with practical application, helping me understand behavioral health from multiple angles. Recognizing mental health as part of total health changed my perspective. The biopsychosocial model, which showed how biological, psychological, and social variables affect mental health, was stressed in the DBH curriculum. This comprehensive approach made me realize how complex human behavior is and how important it is to address mental health issues. Effective interventions must target the individual’s surroundings, relationships, and life experiences, not just symptoms.
