Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies (CGI) is proud to announce that Dr. Ronke Komolafe, DBH, MBA, Doctor of Behavioral Health (DBH) advisor and faculty member, has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Faculty Award from the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC). This prestigious recognition honors educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication to student success, academic excellence, and leadership in distance education.

The DEAC Outstanding Faculty Award recognizes educators who go above and beyond in teaching, mentorship, and service to their academic communities. Nominated by their institutions, recipients are selected for excellence in online instruction, meaningful engagement with students, and impactful contributions to distance education. The award highlights faculty who foster supportive, high-quality learning environments while advancing innovation and excellence in higher education.

As a valued member of the DBH faculty and advising team, Dr. Komolafe has played an important role in guiding doctoral students throughout their academic journey. Her dedication to mentorship, thoughtful instruction, and student-centered support has made a lasting impact on the CGI community. Through her work with students and colleagues, she exemplifies the high standards of academic excellence and leadership that the DEAC Awards are designed to recognize.

Dr. Komolafe was formally honored at the DEAC Annual Conference and Awards Luncheon, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in Washington, DC. The event brought together colleagues, educators, and leaders from across the distance education community to celebrate this year’s distinguished award recipients.

This recognition reflects the exceptional caliber of faculty who contribute to the Doctor of Behavioral Health program at CGI. Through dedicated mentorship, academic leadership, and a commitment to student success, DBH faculty continue to prepare healthcare professionals to lead meaningful change in behavioral health and integrated care.

“As a member of the AAPI community, I’m very familiar with the barriers to mental health services and the need to break through the glass wall of cultural stigma that prevents many from receiving potentially life–saving treatment. I was the only Asian American person in my master’s cohort, the only Asian American person in many of my clinical work settings, the only Asian American person to walk into many of the professional settings that I pushed myself to show up to. “The Doctor in Behavioral Health (DBH) program has changed my understanding of the subject and career path. Before this academic journey, my knowledge of behavioral health was primarily theoretical, including essential ideas and methods. However, the DBH curriculum combined intense academic research with practical application, helping me understand behavioral health from multiple angles. Recognizing mental health as part of total health changed my perspective. The biopsychosocial model, which showed how biological, psychological, and social variables affect mental health, was stressed in the DBH curriculum. This comprehensive approach made me realize how complex human behavior is and how important it is to address mental health issues. Effective interventions must target the individual’s surroundings, relationships, and life experiences, not just symptoms. The curriculum also gave me enhanced evidence-based practice training to execute successful solutions.
